2.5 Graph Tool

The Graph Tool provides the functionality to access, view and modify modeling language specifications at the graph level (e.g. specifications of the Family Tree diagram technique and its elements). From this tool you can also open the other metamodeling tools on a graph type’s components, e.g. open an Object Tool on an object type used in this graph type.

The Graph Tool window includes a Basics tab with the same fields as the other tools, thus the basic definition of a graph type consists of defining its name, ancestor, project, properties and description.

Figure 2–6. Graph Tool.

The difference between the Graph Tool and other metamodeling tools (Object, Relationship, and Role tools) is that where the others handle individual components of a modeling language, the graph tool connects these pieces together to form the modeling language. The components are managed by the various other tabs of the Graph Tool window: Types, Bindings, Subgraphs and Constraints.
