The (C)EP ((Complex) Event Processing) Universe is relatively new; and as such, still kind of in its infancy: There exist many approaches using quite different languages: stream-oriented SQL-like, rule-oriented, imperative, etc.

Now I have come across the following CEP DSL:
- EPDL - Event Processing Descriptive Language
- Can model EPNs (Event Processing Networks) on an abstract level as high as possible
- A dedicated EPDL Editor is also available; but seemingly without capabilities to target different CEP implementations/engines

So immediately MetaEdit+® came to my mind !

Questions:
- Has anybody realized the EPDL already with MetaEdit+® ?
- Has anybody targeted any CEP Engines (Esper, ruleCore, etc.) already with MetaEdit+® ?
- If not: Could it make sense to put MetaEdit+® to good use in the (C)EP-Universe ? For instance by implementing EPDL ? An already existing general-purpose CEP DSL ?

I'm aware of several languages implemented with MetaEdit+ that focus on event processing. Most of them are domain-specific, like for example call processing language which describes how telco server operates with incoming and outgoing calls. Since many of these are developed in-house by users of MetaEdit+ they are not publicly available.

If we use just EPC as an example, you could be interested to check: http://www.integration-engineering.de/2009/08/processing-of-metaedit-models-with-oaw - http://www.integration-engineering.de/2009/08/processing-of-metaedit-models-with-oaw  as here you see a) EPC metamodel (Fig1) and b) EPC model (Fig 3). The focus of this blog entry is not about EPC as such but you can also see how EPC models in MetaEdiut+ can be transformed to e.g. Visio.

I hope this helps. You can also check sample languages which describes event chains, like http://www.metacase.com/cases/callprocess.html - http://www.metacase.com/cases/callprocess.html , http://www.metacase.com/cases/service-creation.html - http://www.metacase.com/cases/service-creation.html , or perhaps even http://www.metacase.com/cases/VoIPTelephonyTesting.html - http://www.metacase.com/cases/VoIPTelephonyTesting.html  if we see the modeling from the testing point of view.
