Dr. Dobb's compares Eclipse and MetaEdit+ for DSM
Dr. Dobb's Journal,
one of the most respected publications in the software development
community, runs a story on DSM in its September
2004 issue. The article, written by
MetaCase CTO Steven Kelly, compares Eclipse EMF & GEF with MetaEdit+
as ways to implement
domain-specific languages. One hour's work in MetaEdit+ reproduced Eclipse's
own small sample application, which runs to 10,000 lines. At 50 lines of
code a day that would be over a year's work, making MetaEdit+ an
incredible 2000 times faster.
Make your own comparison: download full source code for the Eclipse DSM example, and a database for the same example in MetaEdit+ (dsm.zip - if it does not take you straight to the file, choose 200409 and then dsm.zip). The database can be used with the downloadable MetaEdit+ evaluation version.
