Graphical metamodeling
Graphical metamodeling supports early stages of language creation: designing the basic metamodel covering the key language concepts and related rules. The language design as a metamodel can imported into MetaEdit+ and extended into complete DSM solution — by adding notational symbols, additional constraints, generators or by modifying dialogs and toolbars for modeling tools.
Graphical metamodeling is not particularly suitable for language evolution as it is separate from the models. It doesn't allow so well to test language modifications with real models. Nor does it allow changes into notations, generators, dialogs or toolbar modifications. Tools of MetaEdit+ Workbench, including the template-based metamodeling tools, Symbol Editor, Generator Browser and Debugger as well as Dialog Editor support the whole spectrum of language design and implementation.
