DSM

Panel @ CG07: Unified vs. Domain-Specific Modeling Languages

March 09, 2007 18:36:04 +0200 (EET)

Finally a panel including OMG representative. We tried to arrange panels at OOP 2005, Architecture and Design World, Software Product Line Conference and SD West but nobody came to defend UML over DSM. Bran Selic gave his best shot at MoDELS 2005 though.

Code Generation 2007 has a panel moderated by Andrew Watson, Vice President and Technical Director of OMG. I’ll try to contribute to find answers but expect that the main argument given for using UML is that it is a standard! No problem if it is large and complex, can’t be used for generating efficient code and leads to throwing away models at the end. I know some reasons for using Domain-Specific Modeling languages though ;-) By the way, a great thing in the program of Code Generation 2007 is that it provides multiple talks (12) discussing industry cases of model-based code generation. Hope to see you there.
